90. Al-Balad (the City)

وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِO(10)

اور ہم نے اسے (خیر و شر کے) دو نمایاں راستے (بھی) دکھا دیئےo

And (have We also not) shown him the two highways (of good and evil)?

فَلَا اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَO(11)

وہ تو (دینِ حق اور عملِ خیر کی) دشوار گزار گھاٹی میں داخل ہی نہیں ہواo

But he has not yet attempted the steep ascent (of Din [Religion]) of Truth and practical life dedicated to good and piety).

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُO(12)

اور آپ کیا سمجھے ہیں کہ وہ (دینِ حق کے مجاہدہ کی) گھاٹی کیا ہےo

And what have you thought of the steep ascent (of the rigours of the Din [Religion] of Truth)?

فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍO(13)

وہ (غلامی و محکومی کی زندگی سے) کسی گردن کا آزاد کرانا ہےo

It is freeing a neck (from slavery and subjugation),

أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍO(14)

یا بھوک والے دن (یعنی قحط و اَفلاس کے دور میں غریبوں اور محروم المعیشت لوگوں کو) کھانا کھلانا ہے (یعنی ان کے معاشی تعطل اور ابتلاء کو ختم کرنے کی جدّ و جہد کرنا ہے)o

Or feeding on a day of scarcity (the poor and the needy during famine and scarcity i.e. striving to put an end to their sufferings and economic deadlock),

يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍO(15)

قرابت دار یتیم کوo

The orphaned relative,

أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍO(16)

یا شدید غربت کے مارے ہوئے محتاج کو جو محض خاک نشین (اور بے گھر) ہےo

Or the poverty-stricken destitute who is just rundown (and homeless).

ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِO(17)

پھر (شرط یہ ہے کہ ایسی جدّ و جہد کرنے والا) وہ شخص ان لوگوں میں سے ہو جو ایمان لائے ہیں اور ایک دوسرے کو صبر و تحمل کی نصیحت کرتے ہیں اور باہم رحمت و شفقت کی تاکید کرتے ہیںo

(Provided this striving soul is) one of those who believe and advise one another patience and tolerance and urge one another for mutual affection and mercy.

أُوْلَئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِO(18)

یہی لوگ دائیں طرف والے (یعنی اہلِ سعادت و مغفرت) ہیںo

These are the people of the Right Hand (the privileged and the pardoned).

وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِO(19)

اور جن لوگوں نے ہماری آیتوں کا انکار کیا وہ بائیں طرف والے ہیں (یعنی اہلِ شقاوت و عذاب) ہیںo

And those who reject Our Signs are the people of the Left Hand (the callous and the doomed).
